$1,500 Community Change Grant
America Walks and generous Active People, Health Nations partners are excited to announce another round of their popular Community Change Grant program. This program will award grantees $1,500.00 in community stipends for projects related to creating healthy, active, and engaged places to live, work, and play.
The goal for this year’s grant awards is to knit together seemingly disparate threads too often considered in isolation, including, but not limited to; racism and the public sphere; climate and environmental justice; access and inclusion; walking and moving as a mechanism for bringing about political change; and how COVID-19, the need for economic recovery and a growing awakening around racial injustice might alter the landscape of our work. Proposed projects should have a particular focus on engaging in key issues of the day with new perspectives and diverse partners/ audiences while highlighting the vital role that walking and transportation patterns can play in a new era.
Funded projects must demonstrate that they will show increased physical activity and active transportation in a specific community, work to engage people and organizations new to the efforts of walking and walkability, and demonstrate a culture of inclusive health and design. Projects will create healthy, active, and engaged communities that support walking as transportation, health, and recreation. Projects must show a strong and intentional foundation of equity and authentic engagement of the whole community.
Applications open October 5th and are due through submission of this form by November 9th at 5:00 pm Eastern.
Awardees will be notified in December 2020. Funds must be used in the 2021 calendar year.

Virtual Transportation Summit
BikeWalk NC is putting on a Transportation Summit November 5–6, 2020. This will be a virtual summit, focusing on Inclusive Transportation. Registration for the Summit is now open.
In these times when discussions of inclusion and equity are at the forefront, transportation and mobility choices are often the beginning points for inequitable access to jobs, services, and even areas of recreation.
The Summit this year will feature the voices of many people not often heard from. There will be a panel on how to ensure the right people are at the table when discussing transportation projects that will affect them most, discussions on barriers our current transportation systems have on the visually impaired and the mobility disabled, sessions on the effects of land use choices and transportation projects on the environment, and more.
You can find more information about the program and speakers, as well as information about registration, at https://www.bikewalknc.org/nc-bikewalk-summit/
